Belmar Arts 13×19 exhibition Best in Show – Vienna Electric City Bus

Robert Raia Photography is excited to announce that his image “Vienna Electric City Bus” was awarded  “Best in Show” at the Belmar Arts Annual 13 x 19 Juried Photography Exhibition.  There were over 160 images entered into the exhibition and it was an honor to receive such a great achievement. The 13 x 19 exhibition focuses on the classic 35mm film aspect of 3:2. One of the print sizes that can be made without cropping or resizing the original image is 13” x 19”, hence the name and required print size for all images entered into the exhibition.

Princeton University – TIROS Star Trails

I’m excited to announce that my image, “TIROS Star Trails”, was recently selected and published in a Featured Princeton University News Story “Cold War-era satellite dish, restored by Princeton scientists, becomes teaching tool”.

TIROS Star Trails

The TIROS Dish is located at the Camp Evan’s an InfoAge WWII Museum and National Historic Landmark Site located in Wall Township. The dish is open to the public on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors can watch as an operator steers the massive metal dish to track satellites or bounce voices off the moon. See the InfoAge website for more information.

In addition to the news story, I was also honored to hand deliver two framed images of “TIROS Star Trails” to Dr. Daniel Marlow, Evans Crawford 1911 Professor of Physics at Princeton University. Dr. Marlow also treated me to a demonstration on how the TIROS dish operates remotely from Princeton University. They are currently using the dish to study Pulsars and Dr. Marlow is developing a new course for Princeton University Students.

Belmar Arts “The Great American Landscape” Exhibit

Robert Raia Photography “Blackwater Falls” and “In the Fog” images were recently accepted into the Belmar Arts Council “The Great Landscape” juried photography exhibit and on display during the month of March.

The following is a statement from juror, Stacy Smith:

“Selecting the most compelling pieces is a subjective process. Immediate impression, use of medium and color, composition, and subject matter influenced my choices. I was also guided by each work’s potential to interact in a complementary way with others in the group.

Where did the time go?

Well, I’ve been so busy the past few months that I have neglected my website blog posts. Lots of changes at work, all for the better, and keeping up with the projects of a new house have kept me pretty busy. Most of my updates have been through my facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/robertraiaphotography/), but it’s time for some updates.

For those who could not make the event, I plan on attending next year so keep your eye out next Spring and stop on by.
